Technical difficulties

Throughout the filming process we had a couple of technical difficulties, one being final cut express. We had a clip of our artists eyes and we wanted to zoom into the eye and then the new clip

Updates of Ideas, Costumes and Locations

We have made a few changes along the way of constructing our music video, we are now introducing an aspect of the music video using a projector, which projects an moving image onto a wall whilst the artist is stood in front of it. We thought this would create more of a specific and we thought our original ideas didn't fit with our music. As of this new idea we now use the schools theatre to create this effect.

We also are using a whiteboard and someone writing 'Drop Your Guard' on the white board. We thought of using this in our music video as it may added versatility to the video.

We have listened to feedback from other media students about our music video and we have decided to make the whiteboard out and have Georgia holding bits of paper with Drop You Guard on and she drops them.

Work in progress shots

These photos are of Georgia, Shauna and I trying to record paper hearts floating around in a puddle. We found it hard to make the hearts float around and not float, it took us a while to get the perfect shot. Using various techniques like pouring water on to create a raining feel to the puddle, which didn't work. In the end we used my hand to just swirl the water around.

After trailing a range of different shot ideas, we have decided to use this in the music video. We decided to use this because we thought it really linked in with the genre of our music video as well as the flow of the song, as we tried to create the feel of the hearts floating around the water carelessly. This will be effective in our music video, as it is exactly what we wanted it to look like and it really suits the pac of the music and the the genre.

Filming and Editing Schedule

This is the schedule we as a group are going to try to stick to, this will ensure us that we are organised and the music video will be filmed and edited in time of the deadline.

We have 4-5 lessons of media a week and we have chosen to film and edit during these lessons as well as editing on a wednesday afternoon when we all don't have lessons.

Animatic

This is a Animatic video of our music video using the post it notes from our story board

Photos of work in progress

These pictures are work in progress pictures, in developing our music video and our ideas. These pictures show how we are working together and developing our storyboard in order to produce a good story board in order for us to be able to be able to know what we are going to be filming and all the different shot types, making it easier.

Mood Board for our music video

These images are of the mood board we have created for the music video. there is an over view shot and closer views of the images.  there are lots of different moods coming across from these images, on one hand there are images of people struggling and feeling helpless which is the idea we have for our song the vulnerable side to the young girl. On the other hand there are images of bright skies and sunny fields and shiny things. `the two types of clothing a black baggy jumper trying to hide herself but on the other hand lots of different autumn coloured clothes.

audience feedback drawings

I would agree with the drawing representation of our artist mostly as it is a girl that was sketched but the drawing has blond hair whereas our artist has brown hair. But other than that the artist is girly and happy and is wearing a dress which is similar to our artist in the video. she is natural looking and young.

Audience Sybollic codes

Audience conventions.

One convention of my music video is narrative. Artist like Taylor Swift  "blank space" and "love story" and also Justin Beiber "baby" use narrative in their music videos. Both music videos are about a love story. This is very sterotypical of this type of genre for example it is very typical for the narrative to involve and man and a woman falling in love or their struggles. an example of love struggles would be "why you got to be so rude" by magic, this follows a story of two people in love and their struggle of acceptance from the parents, this is similar to Taylor Swifts love story.  to the audience the narrative is very obvious and shows to the audience that it is about love. i feel that this could work for our genre and song but it is stereotypical
so i feel that we could do something different.

Another convention of our music genre could be performance. this is because our genre of music and song focus mostly on the artist and the music rather than having back up dancers and making the music video a spectacle. this i feel connects with the audience better and they listen the the lyrics of the song and relate more to the music. i feel that this would work well with our music genre as the music videos are all about the music. magic also use performance in their music video focusing on the band and the song.

Technical Difficuties

As a group filming this video there were a number of technical difficulties. an example of which is when the Mac Computers that we use to edit and create our music video decide not to let us log in to our account or the computer is not working for that day. this made it difficult as it sets us behind and we would have to find a way to catch up.  it is frustrating when you want to get something finished and the technology that allows you to do that is not working.
Another technical difficulty that we found was that sometimes the blog other applications that we wanted to use were not connecting or working which meant that we could post things on the blog or edit our film on final cut as it had stopped working.
Another technical difficulty was the camera, sometimes they were not charged from the previous person who used them which meant that we had to wait to charge the camera.
on the odd occasion some of our work was lost or accidentlly deleted from the computer.

Story boards, video diary and pictures

This is the work in progress of our story board. These images show the group working on the story board and creating the music video through drawings on post it notes. The drawings are the angles and locations and different effects that we want to include in our music video. Under each image there is also the lyrics to the song for our music video.
The story board is important because it gives us a guide to what we want to to include in the music video. this helps us when it comes to filming. the good thing about post it notes is that if we want to change any ideas we can, nothing is set in stone.
This is an over view of the story board so far. there are varied angles and locations but we might change a few things to make sure that our video is perfect and what we want to show to our audience.

These are post it drawings of things that we would like to include in our video but are not totally sure where they could go or if filming them would be possible. as a group we all have so many ideas it hard sometimes to be able to agree or make the whole music video work together as a whole.

This video Diary is of the story board so far, we have to finish sections of the story board but its finding the right idea that would work all together.

Photographs from filming

The following images are of our time filming for our music video.
the four shots below are us filming our singer in the school drama studio. We used the drama studio as it gave us access to lighting and to distinguished lighting so we could be very specific about how dark or light we wanted the room or wether we wanted to add a filter of colour or not.
the Black and white photo shows this as this all was natural light and what we allowed in the room. It has created a special effect without the need for a filter over the top this is one of the reasons we used the Drama studio.

this a still of the singer in one of the locations of the music video.
we had the singer stand infront and behind the fence to see what angle we prefered.

this is one of the close up shots of the singer that we have decided to use in our music video. it shows the details of the costumes that the singer is wearing and also connotes colours from the time of year.
this is the view from behind the fence

the fence is old and a little tatty and could show the vunrability of the singer

the following photos are of different shots and pathways that we have used in filming

this is a still of the main singer. we decided to do a pan of the singer. this is a blooper shot.

this last shot is of a small stream that we found. the lyrics in our song are "still water" and so we used the image and background of the music video

Costume, Hair and Make Up

In our music video the artist is going to have several costumes including:

A simple very autumnal jeans, jumper and boots. This shows that the artist is very "normal" and girl next door.

She will also be wearing a more relaxed black jumper and jeans.

She will also be wearing a very small elegant necklace.

In our music video the artist is going to be wearing very natural make up as we want her to portray and innocent image to the audience.

Finally her hair will be very natural also and be up in a pony pail or just down and straight.
