Audience Feedback Sketches

I agree with this sketch as a representation of our artist as the person sketched a girl with natural brown hair with minimum make up on which is exactly like the artist in the video. I also agree with the age of the artist that the person said, 18, I agree with this as the artist looks very young and innocent.

Interpretations Of Genre Through Editing

The music video this still would come from would be rock. i feel like this represents and shows the right genre. As we desaturated the still, this adds an edgy feel to the video. This also can show a rock and indie genre as the character is wearing a leather jacket, which is stereotypically a punk rocky piece of clothing to wear. The mise-en-scene in this still shows a drum which could be located in a bedroom or a practise room for the character. This also supports the genre being rock indie as this could relate to people interested in that type of music.

I feel like this contradicts Laura Mulvey's theory that men are seen to be controlling over women and more power, i feel this because the female character that is playing the drum is going against what the theory says as the female is playing a very manly instrument, which is also seen as a powerful and aggressive instrument to play.

I feel that the desaturated effect on the still is very effective as it gives the still an edgy and more rocking than the original still, which also adds to the genre of the music. However, i feel that the still could be improved my the drum kit or the characters jacket having a pop of colour which won't be in black and white. i feel that this would add even more of an edge to the still and the music video.

I don't think we could use this is our music video as, this still represents rock and and edgy vibe whereas our song is very indie pop and the desaturation would not go with the happy love song. But i do feel like this would would be very suitable for a more indie rock song that is a bit edgy.

After trailing a range of different shot ideas, we have decided to use the desaturating effect on parts of our music video. We have decided to use this in our music video to create more of a binary opposite and contrast in the video as well as the effect linking in nicely with the genre of the music. This will be a symbolic and technical code and will show the audience that there is difference in the clips in the video. We have tried to create a feel of sad to happy with colours. We thought we used this effectively throughout the video, as we started with the desaturated image and slowly introduced colour to create the artist become happier.

Green screen analysis

What was easy about green screening?
The thing that was easy about using the green screen and using that technique was editing the pictures to match the screen behind. It was much easier than i thought it would be to line it up and make sure that it was in the right place. the quickest thing was taking the photo to be edited and picking the background

What are the difficulties of green screening?
The main difficulty about Green screening was it was hard to make the image not look like it was done through green screening and to make it look authentic and like the image before edited and the green screen picture added.

How could green screening be used in music videos?
Green screening could be used in music videos to show a certain type of location that we don't have access to for example a background with mountains behind. in our area we do not have access to film in such an area and so we could use green screening to create the background and location we want for our music video.

What music video genres could use green screens? How?
Music video genres that could use green screening could be spectacle or imagery. this is because this music video genre uses takes advantage of the effects that green screening can do.

How could you use it for your music video?
We could use this in our music video to show the audience a specific type of image that we wouldnt be able to portray otherwise as that image of location isnt available to us.

Real Media Comparisons

Audience still

I agree with the image of our artist as our artist is very innocent which fits in with the lyrics and the music video that she performs in. The artist is very natural and does not wear much makeup, which again fits in with the song that she is singing, the mise on scene links in with the song and the genre e.g. her clothing, makeup and hair.

annotated still frames

 Mulrey Theory- the male gaze.
this theory represents men as an article, controlling and treat women as objects to look at. this image is of a woman taped to a wall like a display of art for an audience of men.
 Berger - ways of seeing
the image in this pictre is of teenagers acting free and youthful. They are throwing stones off a clip top. Berger believed that every media text has a view from the camera and the audience is aware of the cameraman/ artist.
the last two pictures presents Gauntlett's theory of Men in crisis. this is portrayed by 2 different types the new man and traditional man. the first picture represents the New man where he is shown looking weaker and innocent. Where as the picture below shows the traditional man where he is surrounded by women and in the center of the shot.
