Interpretations Of Genre Through Editing

The music video this still would come from would be rock. i feel like this represents and shows the right genre. As we desaturated the still, this adds an edgy feel to the video. This also can show a rock and indie genre as the character is wearing a leather jacket, which is stereotypically a punk rocky piece of clothing to wear. The mise-en-scene in this still shows a drum which could be located in a bedroom or a practise room for the character. This also supports the genre being rock indie as this could relate to people interested in that type of music.

I feel like this contradicts Laura Mulvey's theory that men are seen to be controlling over women and more power, i feel this because the female character that is playing the drum is going against what the theory says as the female is playing a very manly instrument, which is also seen as a powerful and aggressive instrument to play.

I feel that the desaturated effect on the still is very effective as it gives the still an edgy and more rocking than the original still, which also adds to the genre of the music. However, i feel that the still could be improved my the drum kit or the characters jacket having a pop of colour which won't be in black and white. i feel that this would add even more of an edge to the still and the music video.

I don't think we could use this is our music video as, this still represents rock and and edgy vibe whereas our song is very indie pop and the desaturation would not go with the happy love song. But i do feel like this would would be very suitable for a more indie rock song that is a bit edgy.

After trailing a range of different shot ideas, we have decided to use the desaturating effect on parts of our music video. We have decided to use this in our music video to create more of a binary opposite and contrast in the video as well as the effect linking in nicely with the genre of the music. This will be a symbolic and technical code and will show the audience that there is difference in the clips in the video. We have tried to create a feel of sad to happy with colours. We thought we used this effectively throughout the video, as we started with the desaturated image and slowly introduced colour to create the artist become happier.
